2-95th MP Battalion History

http://www.veteransweb.com  (article dated Jul 21 2000)

The 2nd Battalion (Military Police), 95th Regiment, 3rd Brigade (Combat Support), 95th Division (Institutional Training), organized effective 16 November 1996 under Permanent Order F-163-19, at 1735 Foss Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802-3567, by Headquarters, United States Army Reserve Command, 3800 North Camp Creek Parkway SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30331-5091. The battalion provisionally activated on 24 August 1996 upon inactivation of its predecessor unit, the 4157th United States Army Reserve Forces School. The unit's mission changed from training engineers to training military policemen under the Total Army School System (TASS.)

The unit organized under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Irvin L. David with the mission to instruct Military Police enlisted courses as defined by the United States Army Military Police School (USAMPS) in the states of Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Authorized strength upon activation was 2 officers and 49 enlisted.

The battalion, originally scheduled for its first accreditation review in FY1999, accredited with no shortcomings in FY1998, one year ahead of schedule. The USAMPS certified the battalion as an instructional institution to instruct to the standards of the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command.  The battalion re-accredited at Fort Riley, Kansas, at Annual Training 1999 (AT99.) The battalion also received USAMPS accreditation for the 191-95C, Internment/Resettlement Specialist conversion course during AT99.

Lieutenant Colonel Ted Cox became the second commander in 1999. Major Tom Lewis assumed acting command on 1 April 2000.

It appears the 95th Regiment (Gosline's Pennsylvania Zouaves) history dates back to the Civil War when it began as the 45th Pennsylvania Volunteers, then reorganized as the 54th Pennsylvania Volunteers. As the Union needed more soldiers, the 95th Pennsylvania Volunteers formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. B Company, 95th Pennsylvania Volunteers, recruited its soldiers from Burlington County, New Jersey, and formed on August 21, 1861. Captain Enos Baldwin was the first commander of B Company, 95th Regiment, which fought under the Union Sixth Corps. B Company mustered out of U.S. service on July 17, 1865, and then discharged on July 24, 1865 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
